Brief History of the Department
 
In 1992 the Master programme in Engineering Informatics was established. When in 1993 the Faculty of Fundamental Sciences was created the Department of Informatics was incorporated into the new formation from another faculty and renamed the Department of Engineering Informatics. The same year the bachelor programme in Engineering Informatics was started. In 1999 the department was split into the departments of Information Systems and Information Technologies, the move caused mainly by a greatly increased number of informatics students.
 
The Department of Information Technologies manages two bachelor level study programmes: Engineering Informatics and Information Technology Service Management. The latter has been created with the cooperation of the IBM services division. The department also manages three Master study programmes: Information Technologies, Information Technologies of Distance Education, and Information Technology Management.
